Okay I’ve seen this picture floating around for awhile and I’d like to address my problems with it finally because every time I see it I want to punch someone in the face and light ten cars on fire.

Because honestly? You cannot “steal” a girl from anybody. No, really, I know this is going to blow your collective minds, neckbeards of Digimon fandom and the internet, but you really can’t. I cannot even begin to count the ways in which you, anonymous macro maker, are so dead totally wrong. I am offended in a panoply of ways that would be comical if this concept did not throw me into fits of burning rage.

I am sick and tired of the idea that a boy, any boy anywhere but especially the lead boy of a piece of media, is “entitled” somehow to the love of his childhood sweetheart. Or any other girl, for that matter. Tai and Sora dated! They dated, and it ended, and Sora chose Matt. Sora chose Matt. He had fuck-all to do with it! He never pursued her! She liked him, she went after him. He accepted, later they got married. Sora was no more tied to Tai because he loved her than he would have been tied to her if she’d loved him, and he’d decided he wanted someone else.

Females are not anyone’s property to be “stolen”. Sora is her own person, capable of making her own decisions and choices. Which she did, in spades. Is it sad for Tai that she didn’t pick him? Maybe. Considering that he had a kid by someone else in the epilogue, he clearly grew up and got the fuck over it.
